the TUTORIAL: QUICK & SIMPLE UPDO

Photobucket
Here's an easy and quick updo that's super fun. You could wear this during cocktail hour or save it for when your hair is on it's last day before you wash it again!
Photobucket
Start with brushed-through hair.
Photobucket
Tease your hair at the crown.
Photobucket
Smooth out the top of your hair.
Photobucket
Separate your hair into three parts.
Photobucket
Separate one of the sections into 3 parts, and braid one of the parts. Then you will braid the 3 parts together and secure with a clear elastic.
Photobucket
Repeat on all sections of the hair. Keep a clear elastic at the top of the middle section, but not on the outside braids. We want the middle braid to stay put but we want the outside sections to be looser on the sides of your head.
Photobucket
Loosen the braids up a little with your fingers.
Photobucket
Roll each braid up into a bun and secure with bobby pins. It may take a few bobby pins to secure each bun.
Photobucket
And done! Check out the rest of the views of Casey's hair below.

manic MANI MONDAY: CARNIVAL NAILS

Photobucket
Today's nails were inspired but the bold primary colors and patterns that are found within a carnival. In appropriate colors this mani may also be suitable for Independence Day! This tutorial is going to show you how to make stencils for your nails out of sticker sheets. Here is what you will need..
Photobucket
- Sticker Sheet of stars (The stars should be small enough to fit on your nail.)
- Three colors of nail polish (The Art Deco one is the kind with the long skinny brush)
Photobucket
Paint your nails white. I used E.L.F. polish in White.
Photobucket
Add turquoise stripes. I did this freehanded with the Art Deco Nail Art Lacquer in Turquoise. Let the nails completely dry.
Photobucket
Cut out around the star shapes on the sticker sheet. Peel off the area around the sticker (this is now your stencil), you will not use the actual star shaped sticker. Place your stencil on your nail where you want the star to be.
**TIP** If you have extra sticky stickers, I DID, place the sticker on your shirt, or any fabric, and then peel off and place on your nail. This will take off some sticky-ness but keep just enough for it to work on your nail still.
Photobucket
Paint over the stencil with the color of your choice, I used Essie's Cute as A Button, which is a pink color.
Photobucket
Repeat on all nails.
Photobucket
Peel of the stencils and add a top coat! Nice!

does PINTEREST KNOW EVERYTHING?

We all love Pinterest and probably spend a little more time on it than we'd like to admit. Every time I'm on Pinterest, I see something else I want to try or make and usually, I do. So we figured, WHY NOT show you all of Pinterest endeavors and pick out the really awesome things from the not-so-amazing things. So from time to time that's exactly what we are going to do! So here we go...first up we have the "alcohol makes your broken makeup troubles fade away" trick. Sounds AMAZING. Casey and I both had a few things that we have been holding on to because... well, it's hard to just throw away your makeup because you dropped it. One time!
Photobucket

So here is the makeup we wanted to fix. Two of these aren't broken but they are hard to use so if this worked, we were going to break those and make them more usable.
Photobucket
Messed up makeup.
Photobucket
Add alcohol.
Photobucket
Mash the makeup and alcohol together with your finger. It will get very very messy and you will probably lose a little bit of your makeup. You may need to add some more alcohol if the mixture is too dry. (If it looks like this picture, you will probably need to add more.)
Photobucket
This is what it looked like when it finally mixed completely together. The texture was like a light mousse.
Photobucket
As you can see this gets really messy.
Photobucket
All cleaned up.
Photobucket
This is what they all looked like when we got them all mixed together. Seems too good to be true!
Photobucket
When it all dried this is what they looked like.
Pros: The makeup is definitely usable again! Word.
Cons: The makeup randomly flakes off and when it dries, and it has little cracks all over.

So does Pinterest know everything? This is definitely a good quick fix if your broken makeup was almost brand new and you really can't bring yourself to replace it. This works much much better if your makeup was still full before it broke. If you only had a little bit left, you'd probably be better off just buying a new one. But this trick does wonders for people like us, who are on a strict budget!

What other Pinterest projects do you think we should try?

***UPDATE 2/29- So this has proven to not be such a great fix.  The pink blush has already cracked again & it has not been dropped.  We still think it's worth trying but you'll probably have to replace your broken make up after all.  Boo :(
